Heirloom portraits are a priceless gift you create for your family. These portraits will be cherished not only by you, but also by your children's children.

If you have a beloved photograph of your mother or father as a toddler, you know-- it's a wonderful piece of your family history.

You're making these portraits of your child just as much for your future grandbabies as you are making them for yourself.

At what age should I book heirloom portraits?

Heirloom portraits can be taken at any age, but I think they are best between 18 months and 5 years of age. During these years, children are moving out of the baby stage and starting to develop the facial features you'll be able to recognize for the rest of their lives. At the same time, they still have the chubby toddler cheeks.

If you're just finding me and your baby is already ten, go ahead and book now. The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago; the second best time is today.

What should my child wear for their Chattanooga heirloom portraits?

Simple is best.

As these are a very classic photographic style, timeless children's clothing looks most appropriate. Peter Pan collars, light colors, simple styles for both boys and girls. Little ladies might consider a smocked dress. Little gents look wonderful in a white collared bubble, romper, or or jon jon.

East Ivy Photography provides Chattanooga families with a selection of beautiful children's clothing, along with parent gowns in our Studio Client Closet. You are welcome to schedule a fitting before your portrait session, so you can try things on ahead of time. This will allow you to go into your session relaxed, knowing we have a solid plan and that you and your baby are going to look wonderful.

If you're wanting something you can keep forever, I'm happy to provide lots of shopping suggestions to all my favorite boutiques for the whole family.

Where should we take photos?

Heirloom portraits take place in my light and airy studio space. We can book your session any time of the day and enjoy beautiful light and controlled temperatures and humidity. Your photos will be soft and light, with a neutral background that fits your home decor and looks good any time of the year.

For the full experience, you can book a longer session and include both studio and outdoor portraits. Many mothers choose to add an outdoor family session to their studio heirloom session.

Why should I book my Chattanooga heirloom photos with East Ivy Photography?
