CHATTANOOGA'S

CAKE SMASH PHOTOGRAPHER

Congratulations!

You've made it through the first year with your sweet baby.

It's time to celebrate!

How does this work?

A cake smash session takes about 90 minutes and has three parts.

(1) SMILE: We'll get some classic portraits of sweet little one first.

(2) SMASH: Little one will enjoy some cake! We'll get all the details- the first reaction, frosting on the hands, and all the joyful mess.

(3) SPLASH:  We wash up after all that cake!  Lots of babies like to relax in the tub after all that excitement. We blow bubbles, laugh, and wash up.

What's included in a cake smash session?

Everything! Some parents just bring me their sweet baby in jammies and let me take care of the rest. We will chat before hand about your preferred theme / color scheme. I will provide all decor, baby outfits, and the cake.

Before the session, you'll need to test your baby with eggs, dairy, and flour.

If your baby has food allergies, I ask that you bring a cake that you know is safe for them.

What should baby wear for cake smash photos?

Simple is best.

East Ivy Photography provides Chattanooga families with a selection of beautiful children's clothing for both little ladies and gents, along with parent gowns in our Studio Client Closet. You are welcome to schedule a fitting before your portrait session, so you and your baby can try things on ahead of time. This will allow us to go into your session relaxed, knowing we have a solid plan and that you and your baby are going to look wonderful.

If you're wanting something you can keep forever, I'm happy to provide lots of shopping suggestions to all my favorite boutiques for the whole family. You're welcome to bring as many outfits as you'd like. We may not get to all of them, but options are always a good thing!

Chattanooga locals may choose to shop in-store at Savannah Taylor and enjoy a special East Ivy Photography Client discount.

When should I book my baby's cake smash session?

I generally suggest cake smash sessions take place 2-3 weeks before your baby's first birthday. This will ensure that you have your beautiful portraits back before their birthday, and allow you to share them with family and friends on the big day.

Cake smash sessions usually start around 10am (after most babies have had their first nap) and take 60-90 minutes. Start time is flexible-- we will chat and can adjust based on your baby's sleep schedule.

Please get on my calendar as soon as possible, as these sessions take a bit more planning.

Where should we take photos?

My light and airy studio space is perfect for cake smash sessions. We can book your session any time of the day and enjoy beautiful light and controlled temperatures and humidity. Your photos will be soft and light, with the beautiful themed background of your choice.

We can also take photos outdoors. There are so many epic locations here in Chattanooga, and I'd love to suggest a few favorites for your photos.

For the full experience, you can upgrade your session to include both studio and outdoor portraits. Families most often choose to do the studio cake smash session with solo baby, and then upgrade to add outdoor family portraits. I usually split those sessions so that baby can nap in between- cake smash in the morning and outdoor family photos in the evening.

Are family portraits included?

Cake smash sessions are focused on your little one.

You may choose to upgrade your session to include family portraits.

Why should I book my baby's cake smash session with East Ivy Photography?

You have fallen deeply in love with a little person who is changing and growing before your eyes. Each day brings something new. Your baby will soon be walking, gaining a whole new world of independence. For this moment though, they are still your squishy little baby.

Your baby's first birthday is not only a celebration of of their life, it's also your first anniversary of taking on a new identity as their mother. My aim is to distill your happiest memories of your sweet baby into simple, joyful, beautiful images that you can cherish forever.

If you see beauty the way I do, let's chat!
