Winter Maternity Photoshoot
This sweet mama is due in early spring, and her maternity photos had been scheduled months ago. The week of her session, Chattanooga experienced some of the coldest weather we've had on record-- cold enough to shut down the schools for a week! That wasn't enough to scare this mama off- she was so organized and determined, and she knew what she wanted. It made working with her an absolute breeze!
Below, our Signature Maternity Session started with professional hair and makeup in studio.
Mama texted me some screenshots of inspiration photos she'd found online. & brought this black dress that showcased her figure beautifully. I've already ordered one to add to the client closet.
Mama also wanted some very editorial shots that showcased her belly. I love these informal, intimate shots (especially in black and white!) with mama in ripped jeans, oversized white button down shirt, and bare feet.
As I was editing, I kept seeing Mila Kunis. Anybody else see it?
These shots are earthy and natural with a skin-toned backdrop, too.
Backlighting is one of my favorite lighting techniques both in studio and outdoors, and it highlights the beautiful outline of a pregnant mother's growing belly. These photos are some of my favorites!
If you can believe it, we completed all of those studio photos in just over an hour. Then, we hopped in cars and headed for the Chilhowee Mountain Overlook. Signature Maternity Sessions include both studio and outdoor photos, and since it was SO COLD, I wanted to use a place that wouln't require too much walking from the car to the location. This is a bit of a drive, but it fit the bill perfectly.
Client Closet / Mama: dress, heels, fur coat
Client Closet / Dad: sweater
Client Closet / Big Sister: dress, ruffle socks, fur cape
Mama braved the 16 degree weather in this dress and heels. (colder with mountain top wind chill!!!)
When I say we shot these fast, I mean... FAST. I had my shot all set up, dad walked her quickly from the warm car, flipped that dress a few times (I've included an outtake so you can see dad!) and we got Mama back in the warm car. By this point we had our posing system down and she was solid on her leg pops, arm positions, and angles, and we got a couple of looks in under a minute or so. And then I LOVE this dress for the color-change options in photoshop.
That's a wrap on this Signature Maternity Session.
Praying for an easy time with the end of the third trimester, an easy birth, and a healthy baby. I can't wait to snuggle him in just a few short weeks!
Hugs,
Liz
